Subject:an ethical dilemma..

Dear LJ friends, sorry for being crap at updating, but please help me out with this one as I don't know what to do..

My dad is back in hospital again. He had an op last week to have his gallbladder removed, and he came through it ok, but he's still in a lot of pain, and I'm not sure he's going to get out before christmas. Kit and I had planned to spend christmas with his family, but I'm thinking I should really go over to France. Problem is, flights are horrendously expensive, so there is no way Kit could joine me at any stage, and it means we spend the whole of his christmas holidays apart. I really don't know what to do.

Note to self - when charging your phone (infrequent event thatit is) make sure the charger is plugged in.

That is all.

All good :)

Dad making tremendous strides forward - he was actually standing yesterday (with help of a zimmer frame) for the first time in months.

I am going home to my beloved today. Woohooo! For good!!!!

Wedding almost booked. We just have to pay the deposit now :)

And I can run two miles. This makes me happy. I ran a huge amount from when I was ten until fifteen, and I've missed it ever since.

Still smoking, but not for long now..

Hope everyone else is good too :)

Subject:b&B reccs - London

Yes, we are very useless and are only sorting out our accomodation for Anna's shindig now :p

( to be fair, I haven't been concentrating beyond the next day for the last couple of weeks)

So - anyone got any good central london budget hotel/hostel/b&B reccs?

I think somwhere between paddington and soho is what we are aiming for..We get in to heathrow about 830 on friday, so we'll be getting heathrow express into paddington and don't want to spen hours getting to somewhere.

First up, our new car is AWESOME! and yay for Edinburgh council giving us a permit this morning so we can park it in our street :). I am especially loving the fact that the engine cuts out then cuts back in automatically at traffic lights. No more gassing pedestrians! woot! We took it for a trial spin to cramond last night with Joris. Was much fun, even if Kit did have to be persuaded to walk along the beach a bit before going straight in to the pub..

Secondl;y, our computer is a peice of shit. It took me 4 hours to turn it on this morning. Gaaaaaaah! Me thinks we need a new one, fast. Someone buy a painting please? :p

Thirdly, I had my telephone interview for jobseekers allowance today. I go and sign on tomorrow. *sigh* I am a doley. Bad me. It won't stretch to a new computer though. It might pay for my fags..what a good use of govt money.

Forthly, I need a kick up the arse. GET WORKING FEE!!!!

How is it possible to be busier when you are unemployed than you were when you were employed?

Quick poll...I am knackered. Should I -

A. start painting
B. Go to the pub for a pint and a read up on art
C. go for a nap?

( it's 4.45 pm)

Subject:X-factor for artists!

Just found out that Charles Saatchi and the BBC are doing a kind of xfactor for artists thingy...

What do you think guys, should I go for it? deadline on 29th of March for applications.

If you think I should, can you you please please please help me out on this if you have any time, and help pick 5 images for submission. Let me know here which ones you think I should go with ( and why, if you can be arsed)

And what I SHOULD have said at the start - nothing from Watercolours, Pen & Ink sketches and Miscellaneous can be used because I have to have the painting to hand, and most of these are sold, or done more than two years ago. Sorry for being a dick and not pointing this out! But your comments are not wasted, because It helps me know what kind of thing people actually like :)

In other news, also very excited about applying for a part time job at the local art shop. From the sublime to the ridiculous!!!

We went to see watchmen last night, which I really rather enjoyed. Seeing as everyone else has talked about this, I will too!

It was a lot more violent than I expected - one of the more visceral films I have seen. Kit and I had identical 'hands over eyes, sharp intake of breath' at quite a few points. ( Joris probably didn't. Phlegmatic dutchman). And Laurie was such a useless cipher of a female character it made me a bit cross. But I did like a lot of the cinematography.

Busy weekend up ahead - Joris's co-workers leaving do tonight.  Going to look at cars to buy, followed by art gallery opening, followed by picnic on the Water of Leith, followed by party for one of Kit's co-workers on saturday. Then watching my little nephew play rugby on sunday, followed by walk in the botanic gradens and drinks with friends on sunday night. Fun all round!!

I'm really rather enjoying the blogging thing. It's great to properly write stuff, and it's making me think about the processes behind my art a lot more. All good. Though I fear I went over board with mammoth blog entry this morning :p. It's a very important tool for an artist to use to p[romote their work, but I have to be VERY careful to avoid spending too much time on the internet, and make sure the majority of my time is spent actually painting!! I would turn the pC off, but I actually need it to get photos to paint from, etc.

On that note, I shall drag myself away from the PC and get working. Have a lovely weekend all!

Subject:My new blog

Seeing as I have put this on the board, and in face book, you'll probably be sick of hearing about this by now..but I have started a blog. This is good news for you lot, as I will no longer be spamming my LJ with art stuff, it'll all be on the blog instead.

It's going to be a kind of diary of an aspiring artist - lots of talk about the process of painting, critiques of other painters, and how the business of becoming an artist is coming along. With lots and lots of pretty pics, both mine and others, of course!!

Here's the link to the first post - take a look and sign up if you are interested.

Back from France. Yay!

Spent the morning cleaning the windows. Well, one window so far. They are tricksy! and of course, uploading art -

only did a couple of paintings whilst away, but found lots of old ones kicking around.

Here's one of the ones I did :

Others at my Red Bubble site as usual :)

Dad was only in for tests, as it turned out - so Iam going back in three weeks for the actual op. Still worth being there just to drive him from hospital and back ( mum can't deal with Franch big city driving ;p) and keep mum from stressing out completely. I'm very glad to be home, though :) I missed Kit!

Subject:All's well that ends well...

So, I went in to the office and had my big chat with the big bosses today. I am very proud that despite eyes welling up once or twice, I didn't cry :p

I don't have to go back to work to work out my notice, which is kind of good, and they are speeding up my pay out. It was actually almost uplifiting - it wasn't to do with the depression, and my work has apparently been really good. It's just tough times. I left it with saying how much I'd enjoyed working there, and that I'd be happy to go back in a year or two once they had jobs again. There is just no point in being bitter, it's really not their fault.

I emailed my recruiter, and weirdly she phoned me back straight away - missed her call but she wants me to get in touch fast. Which is ...unexpected, really.

In other news - The North Berwick Law pic so many of you liked is now available as a print.

I'm sorry to keep pimping art work here, but I'm sure you guys understand especially now, I have to use every avenue at my disposal. Please feel free to let me know if you want to be taken off the 'art' filter, and I'll do so without being offended! In the mean time, bear with me while I pimp.
